Benefits

State Benefits Services unit provides comprehensive services and information regarding benefits for state employees.  State benefits delivers customer-focused support throughout an employee’s career lifecycle and assists employees as they experience different life events in which they may require changes to their benefit plans or advisement regarding retirement, time and attendance or leaves of absence.  This unit also serves to provide best practices and information to department administrators who work closely with employees. 

The Research Foundation Benefits Unit specializes in helping individuals understand the benefits offered to employees during their employment with the Research Foundation (RF) for SUNY.

RF Benefits includes the following services:

• Provides guidance about enrollment and maintenance of the benefits for regular RF employees
• Determines benefit eligibility and enforces RF procedures and policies at campus level
• Advise on benefits for graduate students / fellowships for both enrollment and maintenance
• Facilitate open enrollment for benefits by providing guidance for changes needed
• Conduct orientations for benefit eligible RF employees
• Conduct orientations of benefit eligible graduate students  
• Process benefit enrollments
• Provide Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA ) packets to eligible parties
• Provides coordination on NYS disability, Family Leave Act (FMLA) and six month child care leaves between employee and department
• Enforce time and attendance policies by auditing timesheets and accruals
• Process timesheets for regular employees and graduate students
• Assist with the retirement process by determining eligibility and providing direction to retiree
• Generate semiannual accrual statements for regular employees
• Initiate the vacation payout process by generating vacation payouts to eligible employees
