Organizational Development and Effectiveness (ODE) is dedicated to developing engaged and empowered employees. With excellence and accountability leading the charge, we facilitate learning and growth experiences for faculty and staff, while providing customized support and consultations to individuals and teams during times of change.

Functional Services

Organizational Development and Change Consultations:

Organizational Development and Effectiveness consults and collaborates with departments, supervisors and work groups to assess and tackle employee development needs. ODE assists in the implementation of change initiatives and provides customized tools, resources and learning experiences to support units. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Needs analysis and strategic planning
  • Team assessments – DISC, StrengthsFinder
  • Search committee training and advisement
  • Team building and retreat facilitation
  • Guiding departments to develop goals and learning plans for their team

Career Coaching:

Using a strengths-based approach, ODE provides career coaching that helps employees:

  • Examine natural talents and use them to their advantage at work
  • Develop plans to improve and sharpen skills
  • Refine resumes and cover letters
  • Consider ways to translate current skills into a different type of role

Performance Support:

ODE provides individualized performance support that helps employees and managers:

  • Identify specific skill gaps or performance challenges
  • Understand their communication strengths, challenges and development areas
  • Prepare for collaborative performance discussions and effective program development
  • Develop realistic, actionable, SMART performance goals
  • Create an Individual Development Plan (IDP)

Performance Management:

UB’s online tool, Performance Online Program (POP) allows supervisors and employees to access, complete and store performance programs and evaluations electronically. We provide customized support to supervisors by helping them to:

  • Identify key competencies for teams
  • Improve one-on-one meetings and coaching sessions
  • Develop realistic and actionable SMART Goals
  • Improve performance program development in POP

Career and Personal Development Workshops:

ODE offers a quarterly schedule of free professional development workshops to all UB faculty and staff. Workshops are interactive to ensure that knowledge and skills can be directly applied to your job. Workshops can also be customized to meet specific departmental needs.
