NYSHIP Sick Leave Credit Calculation Changing January 1, 2027

Employees planning to retire in the coming months should be aware of an upcoming change to the calculation of the New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) sick leave credit.

Effective for employees retiring on or after January 1, 2027, beginning of business, the monthly value of the sick leave credit applied toward retiree health insurance premiums will be calculated using updated life expectancy tables. Specifically, the calculation will transition from the 1999 life expectancy tables to the 2015 life expectancy tables.
