Organizational Development and Training

Organizational Development and Training (OD&T) facilitates the learning, growth and development of faculty and staff at the University at Buffalo. We are dedicated to providing individuals and teams with outstanding knowledge, skills and abilities to meet their goals and to support the vision of the university. We offer professional development workshops, career coaching, performance support, consulting services and change management support to individuals and departments.

Functional Services

Career and Personal Development Training Programs:

OD&T offers a quarterly schedule of free professional development programs to all UB faculty and staff. Classes provide interactive and experiential learning to ensure that knowledge and skills can be directly applied to your role on campus. OD&T also provides customized courses to meet specific departmental needs. Topics include:

  • Effective communication
  • Increasing productivity
  • Building relationships and influencing others

Supervisory and Managerial Skills Development:

OD&T follows industry best practices for supervising and leading teams and provides programs such as:

  • Coaching employees
  • Writing performance programs and evaluations
  • Collaborative Performance Management (CPM) program
  • Strategic Leadership

Career Coaching:

Using a strengths-based approach, OD&T provides career coaching that helps employees:

  • Examine natural talents and use them to their advantage at work
  • Develop plans to improve and sharpen skills
  • Refine resumes and cover letters
  • Consider ways to translate current skills into a different type of role

Performance Support:

OD&T provides individualized performance support that helps employees:

  • Identify specific skill gaps or performance challenges
  • Understand their communication strengths, challenges and development areas
  • Develop realistic, actionable, SMART performance goals
  • Create an Individual Development Plan (IDP)

Organizational Development Consultations:

OD&T consults with departments, supervisors and work groups to assess workplace needs and provides customized training including:

  • Needs analysis and strategic planning
  • Team assessments
  • Search committee training and advisement
  • Team building and retreat facilitation
  • Guiding departments to develop their own training programs
  • Assistance with implementing changes in units or workflow
