Buffalo Esports teams represent the university in high-level competitive play and provide students with opportunity to build critical thinking and strategy skills.

Buffalo Esports moved from club to varsity status in 2020 based on its growing popularity with students and the ongoing commitment by the university to support competitive game play. Esports is known for its critical thinking, strategy, comradery and teamwork.

Buffalo Esports is a member of the Esports Collegiate Conference, competing in highly popular games such as Overwatch, League of Legends and Rocket League.

Not ready for varsity play? SUNY League is available for intermural play. UB students interested in the SUNY league should join the Buffalo Esports discord to work with the different clubs and to register.

Valorant Rocket League League of Legends Overwatch

About the Game: Valorant is a game where two groups of five players compete in a tactical action scenario featuring the classic plant-and-defuse mode and putting a unique spin on it with distinct characters and abilities. Players are tasked with either defending or attacking a site to claim victory against their opponents. For players to be successful, communication and teamwork are a must, with an understanding of skills and abilities of the catalog of in-game characters, rounded out by fine-tuned skills with a mouse and keyboard. Valorant was developed and published by Riot games in 2020.

Buffalo Esports is an umbrella for on-campus gaming clubs. Students interested in making new friends, honing their skills in a competitive setting, or just finding people to play with are encouraged to participate in a variety of organized activities and events, including game nights, competitive recruitment drives, coaching opportunities and more.

Members who prove their skills can join teams to compete in intercollegiate events. Buffalo Esports currently houses clubs for games like League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike (CS: GO), Overwatch, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, and Rainbow Six Siege, but we are always looking to expand.
