First-Year Summer Orientation
Complete a structured orientation experience to set you up for a successful fall semester.
First-Year Summer Orientation is an important experience at the beginning of your UB journey. The orientation program will get you started with understanding academic expectations, planning for out-of-classroom experiences and meeting other UB students. You'll also learn about UB's campuses and the many resources available to you as a new student.

New to UB Newsletters
Check your UB email at the start of June, July, and August for guidance through your New to UB experience and reminders about important tasks.
Your orientation program consists of required Online Modules in July and optional virtual sessions prior to your arrival.
You will register for the program on Step 1: Complete the Orientation Data Form.

The new student fee covers all expenses associated with your New to UB experience, including Summer Orientation and Welcome Weekend. The $150 fee is billed to your student account.
Online Modules - Required
- The Online Modules cover the basics about being new to UB through a series of videos, written text and un-timed quizzes. You will complete virtually and asynchronously (on your own time and at your own pace).
- You are required to complete the Online Modules.
- We will email your UB email with instructions for accessing the Online Modules on July 8. Plan at least 2 hours to complete.

Virtual Question & Answer Sessions
- UB student leaders will share strategies for success in college and answer your questions.
- You are highly encouraged, but not required to attend these live sessions.
- Each session includes a featured topic related to beginning your studies at UB.

Tasks to Complete Before Arriving to Campus
- (on-campus residents) Select your room during your assigned appointment time in late June. Review your housing options and the selection process on the Campus Living website.
- (off-campus residents) Secure your housing early. To inform your planning, visit our Frequently Asked Questions page to review resources and UB's tips for off-campus housing. Plan extra time for your first trip to campus to navigate parking and/or wayfinding.
- Review billing dates on the Student Accounts website. Your first payment may be due before classes start.
- Review information about international payments through Flywire. By using Flywire, you can track your payments, save on bank fees and exchange rates, and receive multilingual customer service.
- Submit a photo for your UB Card (requires government issued ID). Your UB Card will be printed for you and ready to pick up from 1Capen your first week on campus.
- Understand UB's Health Insurance Requirement and your coverage options.
- (on-campus residents) Prepare for living on campus. Select your move-in time through the Housing Portal on July 31. Use the Campus Living website to review packing lists, what to expect on new student move-in day, and more!
- Complete part 1 of UB's online health/safety courses (Alcohol EDU and Sexual Assault Prevention); instructions will be sent to your UB email on August 1. Complete part 1 before August 21. Learn more about both programs on the Health Promotion website.
- Check your UB email on August 5. We'll send you details about your schedule for Welcome Weekend.
STAY ON TRACK
Take action on these tasks at least one week before arriving to campus.
You are required to attend International Welcome Weekend to connect with other UB students, get familiar with campus, and learn more about resources that are most important to you.
Review the website to know what to expect. Your detailed schedule will be sent to your UB email on August 5.
