For students starting at UB in fall 2021

We recognize the significant disruption the COVID-19 pandemic has created and the varying levels of impact for members of our UB community—including you, our newest UB Bulls. We share in the disappointment, frustration, and sadness you might be experiencing due to the many cancelled or seriously altered plans. We recognize your Summer Orientation is the beginning of a very exciting and important first step in your college journey.

Please check back in March 2021 for more information about Summer Orientation.

Program Overview

Your Summer Orientation experience will consist of a required online orientation program to complete in July and additional optional virtual connection opportunities in July and August. These will help you get you started with:

  • Understanding academic requirements and faculty expectations at UB
  • Planning your out-of-classroom activities and experiences
  • Learning about what it means to be a member of the UB community
  • Connecting with other UB students, and with faculty and staff
  • Learning about the resources and services available to help you excel during your time at UB and beyond

You will receive more detailed information about instructions, timelines and action steps via email, after you submit your Orientation Data Form. Be sure to check your email regularly.

The new student fee covers all expenses associated with your New to UB experience, including Summer Orientation, Welcome Weekend, Year One and your academic planning. The $120 fee will be billed on your student account.

Online Orientation Overview

During the month of July, you are required to complete an online orientation program that will include a series of videos, written text and quizzes. The online orientation will overview the most important information you need to know as one of UB’s newest Bulls. You need to complete the online orientation at any time that is convenient for you between July 1 and August 3. You should plan on 1-2 hours to complete the program, and it does not need to be completed all at once.

July and August Live Summer Orientation Opportunities

After you complete the online orientation in July, your Orientation Leaders will email you details about additional live, virtual opportunities that will take place in July and early August. We encourage you to carefully review the optional live experiences and participate in ones that interest you.

Other Opportunities

Beyond the Summer Orientation experience, some offices at UB may offer additional virtual event opportunities for new students to learn more about their specific services and programs. As they become available, they’ll be listed here for your convenience.
