Summer Orientation Details Coming Soon!

Please check back in February for details about Summer Orientation in 2023. Use the 2022 Summer Orientation details below as a reference for what to expect in 2023.

Transfer Summer Orientation is an important experience at the beginning of your UB journey. Your orientation is designed to get you started with understanding academic responsibilities, planning for out-of-classroom experiences and meeting other UB students. You'll also learn about UB's campuses and the many resources available to you as a new student.

Transfer Orientation Includes:

Online Modules

  • The online modules cover the basics about being new to UB through a series of videos, written text and un-timed quizzes. You will complete virtually and asynchronously (on your own time and at your own pace).
  • All new transfer students are required to complete the online orientation modules.
  • New students are emailed instructions for accessing the modules on July 5. Plan 1-2 hours to complete before August 1.

DETAILS

  • Available July 5
  • Complete before August 1

New Student Checklist

The New Student Checklist overviews many of the tasks you need to complete to successfully begin at UB. Take action on the items below in July and August, before arriving on campus.

  • If you're living on campus this fall, you will select your room during your assigned appointment time, beginning the week of June 27. Review your housing options and the selection process on the Campus Living (UB Housing) website.
  • Complete any to-do list items for financial aid located in your HUB Student Center (access through MyUB, requires UBIT name/password).
  • Review billing dates on the Student Accounts websiteYour first payment may be due before classes start. If you expect a financial aid refund, set up direct deposit to receive these funds faster. Learn more about direct deposit at UB and sign up in your HUB Student Center (access through MyUB, requires UBIT name/password).
  • Understand UB's Health Insurance Requirement and your coverage options. If you have existing health insurance, submit a waiver of UB's coverage to remove the automatic charge from your eBill. UB recommends submitting a waiver before July 22.
  • Submit a photo for your UB Card. You will get your UB Card at 1Capen at a time convenient for you. If you're in the Western New York area, you're encouraged to visit in July or August to pick up your UB Card. If you're not in the area, plan to get your UB Card within the first week of the semester.
  • Register for your Parking Permit online (requires UBIT name/password) if you plan to bring a car to campus. Select to have this mailed to you. Request your parking pass by August 12 to ensure it arrives before your first trip to campus.
  • Complete part 1 of UB's online health/safety courses (Alcohol EDU and Sexual Assault Prevention); instructions will be sent to your buffalo.edu email after you complete Summer Orientation. Complete part 1 before August 26. Learn more about both programs on the Health Promotion website.
  • Complete the final steps of the New to UB Technology Guide to configure devices for Wi-Fi, set up UBmail on your personal device(s) and download free UB software and apps, like Microsoft 365 and Zoom.
