Greetings from Campus Living

Whether you are returning from winter break, or coming to live at UB for the first time, we welcome you to your home away from home. We are committed to providing a safe, clean and vibrant community for you to excel personally and academically from the moment you arrive here.

Living on campus provides you with built-in connections to academic programs as well as opportunities to become involved with student clubs and organizations all while making friends that will last a lifetime.

On this page:

Winter Break Resident Exemption

Some students who have been continuously living in on-campus housing throughout the winter break period are exempt from both the “Return to Campus” testing and the seven-day precautionary quarantine. The students in this category have been contacted directly by Campus Living to alert them of the exemption.

Move In Appointments

Residents will be required to schedule a move in time before arriving on campus. These appointments will allow for social distancing during move in.

You will select from 1 hour time slots during the following dates/times:

  • Friday 1/29 - 8am-8pm
  • Saturday 1/30 - 8am-8pm
  • Sunday 1/31 – 9am – 5pm

You can arrive anytime during your scheduled time slot and you will then have 3 hours to complete move in.

Slots are limited so we encourage you to sign up as soon as appointments become available.

The deadline to select a timeslot appointment is 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 28th. All residents arriving on January 29th – 31st must make an appointment.

To select (or cancel/change) an appointment:

  1. Log into the Campus Living Housing Portal at https://buffalo.starrezhousing.com/StarRezPortalX
  2. Click “Other” from the main menu bar, where you will see an option for “Spring 2021 Move-In Appointments”. Choose that from the drop-down menu.
  3. On the “Appointments” page, choose the appropriate block from the “Book an Appointment” drop down menu:
Creekside, Flickinger, Flint, Hadley or Southlake, select “Apartment – Spring Move-in”. For all other locations, select “Res-Hall – Spring Move-in”.
  4. Select one timeslot from those available. Appointment timeslots are limited and available on a first come/first serve basis, so you may not get your first choice. If your preferred appointment is not available and you are unable to modify your plans, please select an appointment closest to your arrival time on your expected return/move-in date and we will do our best to accommodate you.
  5. Appointments may be cancelled/changed until 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 28th. To do this, repeat steps 1 through 3 above.
  6. You will receive an email confirming your request, cancellation or change.

Those requiring a move-in date prior to January 29th may request Early Arrival through the Campus Living break housing process. The earliest permitted date is January 22nd (or January 16th for those requiring quarantine housing). Students must meet one of the criteria listed and additional daily charges will apply.

Personal Health and Safety - Packing List Additions
  • Face masks (preferably cloth) are mandatory in New York State and on all UB campuses. A face mask will be provided to all students but we recommend that you bring a supply of your own.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting supplies, including hand sanitizer, will be needed for you to keep your personal spaces safe. UB janitorial staff cleans shared spaces and commonly touched areas with CDC-recommended disinfectant.

Shipping Belongings Before Arrival

  • Campus Living will begin accepting letters and packages for spring 2021 students on January 20, 2021; please do not ship items to your campus address before that date.
  • Students who have items shipped to campus prior to their arrival will be sent an email with details on how to pick up their mail.
  • All mail & packages sent prior to your arrival on campus should be picked up as a part of your check in process during your assigned 3 hour move in window.
  • Letters & packages that are not picked up during the initial check-in process may not be available until after the first day of classes.

Retrieving your mail and packages

Each residential area on-campus has its own mail & package area.  Students are provided a mailbox for flat letters; students will be notified via their ‘buffalo.edu’ email with details of where to retrieve packages.

All campus mail is first delivered to our central mail service center, located on North Campus.  From there it is processed and sent to our individual residential areas for delivery.  All packages are ready for pick up within 2 business days of arriving on campus.

Delivery Delays

Due to increased safety measures in response to COVID-19, there may be longer delays in mail & package delivery.  Although you may get notification by a 3rd party vendor that your package has been delivered, it still may take Campus Living several additional days to process your package.  Students should only pick up their package after being notified by Campus Living that their package is available for pick-up.

Assignment Changes

At UB, we will work with you to try to accommodate housing change requests. However, these changes may take time, and are not always possible due to room availability and other considerations.

If on-campus housing is closed will I receive a refund?

  • Upon reasonable notice, residents may be required to vacate residence halls and apartments on a temporary or permanent basis.
  • In the event that Campus Living terminates housing due to public health concerns for the remainder of the semester, the University will offer reimbursements according to the reimbursement schedule.
  • The reimbursement schedule considers that university housing rates fund both fixed and variable costs to operate the residence halls and apartments.
