Whether you are returning from winter break, or coming to live at UB for the first time, we welcome you to your home away from home. We are committed to providing a safe, clean and vibrant community for you to excel personally and academically from the moment you arrive here.
Living on campus provides you with built-in connections to academic programs as well as opportunities to become involved with student clubs and organizations all while making friends that will last a lifetime.
Starting two weeks before their planned return to campus, all students, faculty and staff must complete a daily screening via the Daily Health Check to evaluate for travel history, COVID-19 history and COVID-19 symptoms.
Students will also be required to continue completing the Daily Health Check throughout winter session and the spring semester if they live on campus, take one or more classes with an on-campus component, work on campus or use on-campus services such as dining, libraries or fitness facilities. Faculty and staff who plan to be on campus are also required to complete the Daily Health Check but only on those specific days.
Before spring semester begins, students planning to live, work or take classes on campus, or utilize campus facilities such as libraries, fitness/recreation or dining halls, must complete a precautionary quarantine starting seven days prior to their return to campus. Before arriving on campus, students must affirm via HUB attestation that they have done so.
Before arriving on campus, students must login to HUB to submit their seven-day precautionary quarantine attestation.
Per the SUNY mandate, limited exemptions to this precautionary quarantine requirement will be made for the following students:
Campus Living will help you to complete your precautionary or travel related quarantine period before moving you into your assigned on-campus housing for the spring. A residence hall on campus has been designated for this purpose. All students in quarantine will be housed in single occupancy rooms with private bathroom facilities.
Pre-arrival quarantine at UB will include the following:
Free campus testing will be available by appointment weekdays from 1/25-2/5 for eligible students. Students may also submit outside test results.
Read Spring ’21 Mandatory Return-to-Campus Testing for more information.
Per SUNY policy, some undergraduate, graduate and professional students are required to be tested prior to returning for the spring semester. UB will provide testing for those students not able to obtain testing on their own prior to returning to the campus.
The following groups of students are required to be tested by UB or other means prior to returning for spring semester:
All students who will be living on campus, taking classes on campus or coming to campus to participate in activities or utilize services must either present evidence of a negative COVID-19 test taken within three days prior to their return or participate in on-campus testing as soon as possible but no later than five days after returning to campus. Students who present documentation of a positive diagnostic test within the previous three months are exempt from return-to-campus testing.
Review the health and safety information and mandates for students, including requirements for:
Some students who have been continuously living in on-campus housing throughout the winter break period are exempt from both the “Return to Campus” testing and the seven-day precautionary quarantine. The students in this category have been contacted directly by Campus Living to alert them of the exemption.
Residents will be required to schedule a move in time before arriving on campus. These appointments will allow for social distancing during move in.
You will select from 1 hour time slots during the following dates/times:
You can arrive anytime during your scheduled time slot and you will then have 3 hours to complete move in.
Slots are limited so we encourage you to sign up as soon as appointments become available.
The deadline to select a timeslot appointment is 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 28th. All residents arriving on January 29th – 31st must make an appointment.
To select (or cancel/change) an appointment:
Those requiring a move-in date prior to January 29th may request Early Arrival through the Campus Living break housing process. The earliest permitted date is January 22nd (or January 16th for those requiring quarantine housing). Students must meet one of the criteria listed and additional daily charges will apply.
When completing your move you must return carts to your original pick-up location for cleaning and sanitizing. Inventory is limited and returning them promptly will make them available for other residents.
Individual arrival instructions will be communicated to those students registered and approved for pre-occupancy quarantine.
If you need to complete quarantine on-campus please contact us for arrangements and more information.
Room assignment selection began for new residents on January 7. If you have not already done so, complete your room assignment selection in the housing portal.
Students may request to arrive as early as January 22 by completing a Winter Break application. Only students who meet one of the criteria below will be approved:
For health and safety reasons, we will not have an assisted move in process this year. Students will be allowed no more than two people to help with move in. We ask you to carefully consider the amount of personal belongings you bring.

Each residential area on-campus has its own mail & package area. Students are provided a mailbox for flat letters; students will be notified via their ‘buffalo.edu’ email with details of where to retrieve packages.
All campus mail is first delivered to our central mail service center, located on North Campus. From there it is processed and sent to our individual residential areas for delivery. All packages are ready for pick up within 2 business days of arriving on campus.
Due to increased safety measures in response to COVID-19, there may be longer delays in mail & package delivery. Although you may get notification by a 3rd party vendor that your package has been delivered, it still may take Campus Living several additional days to process your package. Students should only pick up their package after being notified by Campus Living that their package is available for pick-up.
If you have questions about a specific mail/package delivery, including inquires about forwarding, please fill out the mail/package inquiry form.
At UB, we will work with you to try to accommodate housing change requests. However, these changes may take time, and are not always possible due to room availability and other considerations.
360 degree panoramic photos and virtual tours of each room style are available online.
The housing canellation deadline was December 1. Cancellation requests recieved after this date will be evaluated on a case by case basis and may incur a financial penalty.
All cancellation requests should be submitted directly through the housing portal.
