Whether you are returning from winter break, or coming to live at UB for the first time, we welcome you to your home away from home. We are committed to providing a safe, clean and vibrant community for you to excel personally and academically from the moment you arrive here.
Living on campus provides you with built-in connections to academic programs, as well as opportunities to become involved with student clubs and organizations all while making friends that will last a lifetime.

Returning Students Opening Date: January 17, 2026
On-campus residence halls and apartments re-open at 9 a.m. If you are a retuning student, you may go directly to your assigned room. You are not required to check-in in person or meet with any staff upon arrival.
- You will need to complete spring check-in process in the housing portal.
- Don't forget to bring your UB ID card and keys.
If you need to move in after 5 p.m. on the first day of classes (January 21, 2026), you must request Late Move-In. Not requesting late move-in can result in your room assignment being cancelled.
NEW TO ON CAMPUS HOUSING THIS SEMESTER: JANUARY 17, 2026
- Report to your designated check-in location between January 17 and January 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Designated check-in locations are in the area and village office for your assigned residence hall/apartment.
- You must bring a photo ID to complete check-in.
- A staff member will check you in and give you your key, as well as directions to your room or apartment location.

All Residences Hall spaces also include floor lounges (most equipped with a stove, microwave and sink).

- Login to the housing portal
- You will see your assignment at the bottom of the "Home" page.
- From any other portal page, simply click "Home" on the main menu bar

- The MicroFridge is a energy conservative microwave & fridge combination permitted in our residential rooms. See more information on MicroFridges.
- Order by August 1 and it will be delivered to your room before you arrive.

*Please note that MicroFridges are not permitted in Greiner Hall due to the building’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification and sustainability commitments.
- The university uses a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system which has replaced physical parking hang tags.
- All residents who choose to have a car on campus must register for their virtual parking permit at no additional cost.
- If you live in the residence halls, you can park in one of the nearby lots (weekend visitors can park in a residence hall lot without a permit after 3 p.m. Friday).
- If you have a guest visiting you, please have them visit the Parking and Transportation office to receive a guest parking tag
Purchase renters insurance if you are not covered by your parent/guardian's policy. Buy coverage before you get to UB. This is highly suggested for both residence hall and apartment residents.

Checking In: Step by Step
Check In at Greiner Hall A-Wing Lobby
All Greiner Hall residents must check-in at the front desk to receive their key.
- Park in the lot closest to your check in location and proceed to the nearest entrance. Do not unload at this time.
- There will be a station where you will receive your key(s) and a post card with directions (including URL’s with turn by turn directions) to your assigned parking lot and other important information.
- Use the provided Google map below to navigate to the parking lot closest to your building.
- Unload your vehicle then you (or a helper) moves car to long-term parking spaces. In the meantime you (or helpers) may begin moving belongings to your assigned room.
Checking in After Hours?
Report to your area or village office and call the phone number posted at your location. A staff member will meet you to issue your key and check you in.

We have created custom Google maps to help you find the parking lot closest to your assigned building.
When the map loads, click "Directions" to get turn by turn navigation to the unloading zone.

A Wing
- Park in the Fargo Lot and enter Greiner Main Entrance.
- Take either main floor elevator to Floors 2-6.
- After exiting elevator, turn left.
- Make another quick sharp left to enter the A wing hallway.
B Wing
- Park in the Fargo Lot and enter Greiner Main Entrance.
- Take either main floor elevator to Floors 2-4.
- After exiting elevator, turn left to enter the B wing hallway.
C Wing
- Park in the Fargo Lot and enter Greiner Main Entrance.
- Take either main floor elevator to Floors 2-6.
- After exiting elevator, turn right.
- Make a sharp left to enter the C wing hallway.
- Moving carts are available in designated areas
- Carts must be checked out with a staff member before use.
- A UBID is required for check out.
- Only one cart can be issued to each student at a time.
- Carts should be returned as soon as you are finished using them.
- Carts must be returned to a staff member in a designated area.
- Carts can only be issued and returned during posted business hours.
- If your cart is not returned by the close of business, keep it until the following day.
- Unreturned carts will be assessed an $138 replacement fee.
- Campus Living will begin accepting letters and packages for spring 2026 students on January 2, 2026; please do not ship items to your campus address before that date.
- Students who have items shipped to campus prior to their arrival will be sent an email with details on how to pick up their mail.
- All mail and packages sent prior to your arrival on campus should be picked up as a part of your check in process during your assigned move in window.
- Letters and packages that are not picked up during the initial check-in process may not be available until after the first day of classes.
Each residential area on-campus has its own mail and package area. Students are provided their own mailbox for flat mail. Notifications are NOT sent out to students for flat mail placed in their mailboxes. It is up to the student to check their mailbox periodically to retrieve it.
Students will be notified via their ‘buffalo.edu’ email with details of where to retrieve packages.
All USPS mail is first delivered to our centralized Campus Mail center, located on North Campus. From there it is processed and sent to our individual residential areas for delivery. All packages are ready for pick up within 2 business days of arriving on campus.
Assignment Changes
At UB, we will work with you to try to accommodate housing change requests. However, these changes may take time, and are not always possible due to room availability and other considerations.
Cancel Housing
The housing cancellation deadline is December 1, 2025 for new spring applicants. Only students no longer attending UB will be allowed to cancel after this date. Cancellation requests received after this date for extenuating circumstances will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and if approved may incur a financial penalty.
All cancellation requests should be submitted directly through the Housing Portal.
