Heidi Julien, a professor of information science at the University at Buffalo, has received the 2025 Award of Merit from the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T).
Association for Information Science and Technology is this association’s highest honor and recognizes lifetime achievement in the field. Heidi Julien recieved it as she has spent nearly 40 years studying digital technology and digital literacy, and she has held leadership roles at several universities in the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand.
Since joining UB in 2013, Julien has played a key role in strengthening the Department of Information Science, including helping it earn full accreditation and launching a doctoral program. She is widely known for her work on digital literacy and for mentoring students and early-career scholars around the world. Julien says the award is especially meaningful as it reflects the values of scholarship, service, and mentorship that she believes are essential to advancing the field.
