Siwei Lyu’s Lab Tools Help Debunk Fake Netanyahu Video
Boom Fact Check used DeepFake-o-Meter, developed by a lab led by Siwei Lyu, CIIS Co-Director and SUNY Empire Innovation Professor, to debunk an AI-generated video.
The Media Forensics Lab, led by Siwei Lyu, CIIS Co-Director and SUNY Empire Innovation Professor, was cited by Boom Fact Check in its debunking of a fabricated video purporting to show the death of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Analysis using the lab’s DeepFake-o-Meter found a high probability that both the visuals and audio were synthetically generated, while the footage also contained clear behavioral and visual inconsistencies.
