Siwei Lyu, SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and co-director of the Center for Information Integrity, was quoted in NBC News about the copyright and deepfake concerns surrounding OpenAI’s new video-generation app, Sora.
Lyu noted that while OpenAI has introduced visible and invisible watermarks and metadata tracing tools to identify AI-created videos, their effectiveness remains uncertain without independent testing. He emphasized the need for multiple layers of authentication to ensure transparency and trust in AI-generated media, as questions grow over Sora’s potential for misuse and copyright infringement.
