Professor Rohini Srihari of the University at Buffalo (UB) is leading innovative research on how artificial intelligence can be used responsibly to benefit society.
A professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Rohini Srihari combines her expertise in language and computing to develop advanced AI systems, including tools that help individuals with motor neuron diseases such as ALS communicate, and frameworks to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of AI chatbots used in mental health support.
Her work also extends to using AI to predict refugee movement to assist governments and nonprofit organizations, as well as exploring AI’s role in creative fields. Much of this research is accelerated by Empire AI, New York State’s $500 million supercomputing and research initiative located at UB, which has significantly reduced research timelines and enabled faster progress toward addressing complex global challenges.
