About Leadership House

Leadership House is a highly selective, year-long leadership development program that is only open to first-year students attending the University at Buffalo.

This program is designed to make sure students get the most out of their time at UBuffalo, providing members with opportunities to gain and improve leadership skills, put those skills into action, network with successful Leadership House alumni, and establish a supportive community of peers.

This experience is great for students who...

  • Want to become a more confident leader
  • Are excited to learn and grow as a person
  • Hope to be successful in their chosen career path

Since 1997, Leadership House has been a go-to place for first-year students hoping to advance their leadership skills and become more confident and capable leaders. Challenge yourself to make the most out of your first year at UBuffalo by applying for this incredible experience.

Apply for Leadership House

There are 3 parts to the Leadership House application:

  1. Simple demographic questions (name, email, etc.)
  2. A personal statement that addresses why we should choose you for Leadership House and how the program would assist in your academic, career, and /or personal goals. (800 words or less)
  3. 1 Letter of Recommendation (the letters you used as part of your application to UB are acceptable! Your recommenders can send them "as is".)

*There will also be an optional section that allows you to share one additional piece of multimedia to help the committee learn more about you! This could be a video, a poem, or even a copy of your most recent resume.

Application opens 8 a.m. on Monday, February 16.

Important Deadlines

We offer two different deadlines for applicants. Applying for early action in May allows accepted students to live in our exclusive Leadership House community! If students choose to participate in the community, they can expect to be paired with a fellow Leadership House student and live in the Governor’s Complex.

Students can also apply by our regular deadline in July, but students accepted at this deadline won't have the opportunity to live in our community. Living in the Leadership House community is a perk of the program, but not a requirement. Students who choose to live elsewhere on campus or off-campus are welcome and encouraged to apply!

Early action applications are due on Sunday, May 10 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Regular decision applications are due on Sunday, July 12 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

If you have questions regarding the program or the application, please email our office. We're happy to help!
