Comprehensive Fee Waiver

On this page:

The Comprehensive Fee is paid by all students at the University at Buffalo, unless they meet fee waiver criteria.

Who Qualifies for a Comprehensive Fee Waiver?

Students in exclusively online academic programs that have been previously approved by the Provost’s Office and registered by the New York State Education Department are eligible for the Comprehensive Fee waiver.  These programs are in distance education format, consistent with the student’s intention to take courses exclusively online at the time of application and matriculation toward the degree.

Students must be enrolled in an exclusively online academic program in order to be eligible for the Comprehensive Fee Waiver. If you are enrolled in one of these programs, you will automatically receive a fee waiver.

Fee Waiver Criteria

Effective fall 2020, UB will automatically waive certain fees for students who meet the following criteria.

Fees (if applicable) waived for students enrolled in exclusively online academic programs:

  • Campus Life Fees
  • Recreation Fee
  • Athletic Fee

Fee waived for students in advanced degree programs in School of Management (including MBA), School of Dental Medicine, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and School of Law:

  • Career Services Fee

Waivers will not be granted for the following fees:

  • Academic Excellence and Success Fee (ACES)
  • College Fee
  • Technology Fee

Online Academic Programs

If You Think You Qualify for a Comprehensive Fee Waiver

If you are enrolled in an academic program that you feel is exclusively online but is not listed as one of the exclusively online academic programs, you may contact Student Accounts. A review of your academic program will be completed to see if you qualify for a fee waiver.
