Learning how the financial aid and billing process works is important to your success at UB. We’ve covered the basics about paying for college. Review the information, check your UB email account regularly, follow up on your to-do list items, and ask questions of the UB experts when you’re not sure.
Welcome to Paying for College.
The Office of Student Accounts is here to help you understand the financial side of your University at Buffalo experience.
Paying for college is a significant commitment, but with the right information and planning you can feel confident and prepared as you begin the semester.
In this video, we’ll cover how to access your eBill, review charges, understand payment options, give others access to your account, see how financial aid appears on your bill, and learn what to expect if you are eligible for a refund.
Before classes begin, UB sends an eBill notification to your UB email address.
UB does not mail paper bills---all billing is online.
This email is not your actual bill, but it provides instructions for accessing your statement through HUB and QUIKPAY.
Think of HUB as your academic and financial headquarters.
You’ll use it to register for classes, view grades, check financial aid, and manage your bill.
From the Billing and Payments tile in HUB, you’ll be directed to QuikPay, where you can view and print your eBill and access your statement history.
The Current Activity tab in QuikPay updates nightly and shows real-time changes to your account.
This includes added or dropped classes, housing or meal plan adjustments, payments, refunds, and financial aid activity before the next bill is issued.
If a parent, guardian, or other individual will help with payments, you must grant authorized payer access.
Authorized payers can view and pay eBills, receive billing notifications, and enroll in payment plans.
A separate FERPA consent which stands for Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act allows others to discuss your financial or academic information with university offices.
Without authorization, we can only speak with the student.
Your eBill includes tuition based on your registered credit hours, mandatory broad-based fees, and additional charges such as housing, meal plans, lab fees, or other course-specific charges.
Students are billed by the semester, not for the full academic year.
Student health insurance is charged each fall and spring to all full-time international students.
If you have sufficient coverage, you must submit an online waiver by the posted deadline.
Missing the deadline will result in the insurance charge remaining on your account.
Anticipated Financial Aid reduces your balance, but aid will only appear once all HUB To-Do List items are completed.
Incomplete items may delay aid and could result in unpaid balances, late fees, or holds.
You have two options to pay your bill: pay the full amount by the due date or enroll in a payment plan to spread costs over multiple installments.
Payments can be made online using a U.S. bank account, credit card, or Flywire for international payments.
UB does not charge a credit card convenience fee.
Credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express are accepted, payments must be made by the cardholder for security reasons.
Personal checks may be mailed to the address listed on your eBill.
Important: If you are enrolled in a payment plan, do not use the “Make a Payment” button.
Payment plans are interest-free and available for fall and spring semesters.
The day you enroll determines the number of installments.
A $45 non-refundable enrollment fee applies.
Installments are automatically deducted and will rebalance after the add drop period to reflect changes in charges or financial aid.
Email notifications are sent whenever installment amounts change.
There can only be one payment plan owner per semester.
Disbursement is the process of applying financial aid to your student account.
Federal Aid (such as Pell, SEOG, Loans, UB Scholarships) typically disburses about one week before classes begin.
State aid disperses after the fifth week, and Excelsior and New York State Stem scholarships are released after the semester is over and grades are posted.
Check your eligibility for New York State Aid. Work with your academic advisor to ensure you're meeting all of your aid programs requirements.
If aid creates a credit balance, you may be eligible for a refund.
To receive refunds faster and more securely, we strongly recommend enrolling in Direct Deposit through QuikPay.
Refunds are typically available within 2-3 business days, while paper checks take longer and require accurate address information.
To enroll, go to QuikPay, click “Manage Refunds”, select “Manage My Refunds” and provide your bank details.
Authorized payers who are taking out a Parent Plus loan should enroll in Direct Deposit.
Otherwise, a paper check will be mailed to the permanent address.
Tuition insurance is optional and provides financial protection if you’re unable to complete the term due to a covered circumstance.
Additional information is available on the GradGuard website.
Remember to finalize your plan to pay, complete Financial Aid To-Do items, set up authorized payer access, and enroll in direct deposit.
We’re here to help throughout the semester.

Living in New York State for college does not automatically qualify you for in-state tuition.
Residency status is determined by Admissions and requires proof of permanent New York State domicile for twelve months prior to the start of the term.
Missing or incomplete documentation results in out-of-state tuition charges.
You have two options to pay your bill: pay the full amount by the due date or enroll in a payment plan to spread costs over multiple installments.
