    UB is part of a regional collaboration that received a $40 million federal grant to boost the semiconductor industry in Upstate New York.     Dr. Jonathan Lovell and his team are developing an innovative Alzheimer's immunotherapy that targets multiple epitopes of amyloid-beta and tau proteins, showing promising results in mice by reducing brain damage and improving cognition. Collaborating with the Institute for Basic Research and UB spinoff POP Biotechnologies, the team aims to advance this vaccine toward human trials in the near future.

    A University at Buffalo-led research team has been awarded $3 million to develop new membrane technology that could greatly reduce the amount of energy needed to produce pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food and other products. UB’s Technology Transfer office has filed a preliminary patent for the technology, and efforts are underway to commercialize it.
