Spatial Biology

10X Genomics XENIUM Platform – RNA in situ platform using fresh/frozen or fixed formalin paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue sections to identify transcript localization at the sub cellular level within human or mouse tissues. Current methods use smaller gene probes (~300 genes) targeted to specific tissue types (brain, lung, etc) or large gene probe sets (~5000) across multiple tissues to identify RNA targets within your tissue of interest.

10X Genomics VISIUM – Unbiased, species agnostic RNA expression platform to identify transcripts expressed at near single cell resolution within tissue sections of your choice. We can use both fresh/frozen tissue (OCT embedded) or FFPE material in our standard or high definition protocols.

A microscopic view of neurons or nerve cells in vibrant colors. The image shows a detailed 3D visualization with a large spherical cell body (soma) in glowing orange and yellow, featuring a textured, bubble-like surface. Multiple branching dendrites extend outward in organic, flowing patterns against a contrasting turquoise blue background. The image has a luminescent quality with the neural structures appearing to glow with internal energy, creating a striking contrast between warm and cool tones.
A 3D molecular visualization showing interconnected spherical structures with a glossy, iridescent appearance against a turquoise and orange bokeh background. The molecules are linked by crystalline bonds, creating a complex chain-like formation. The spheres display vibrant colors including green, orange, pink, and blue, with reflective surfaces that create a dramatic scientific aesthetic. The image has a shallow depth of field, bringing the central molecular structure into sharp focus while the background remains artistically blurred.

Sequencing

The UBGBC uses short read sequencers from Illumina and long read Oxford Nanopore systems to meet your needs.

Illumina NovaSeq – Facilitates projects of any size, from large-scale single-sell sequencing efforts to whole genome and de novo genome assembly projects. Enabled by our direct connection to UB’s Center for Computational Research, we can process samples rapidly and provide timely results for your projects.

Illumina NextSeq – Rapidly processes bulk RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, Exome-Seq, and other similar experiments with a capacity up to 1.7 billion reads.

Illumina MiSeq – Specializes in more targeted sequencing geared toward smaller genomes. This includes targeted genomic amplicons and bacterial 16S sequencing.

Oxford Nanopore MinION – Long read sequencing platform for smaller project needs from bacterial16S microbiome to human whole genome analysis.

Single-Cell Sequencing

The 10x Genomics Chromium X platform specializes in single-cell RNA-Seq, single-cell V(D)J, single nuclei ATACseq, and single nuclei multiomics that are compatible with our Illumina sequencers. In addition, we offer other single cell platforms (Illumina Single Cell 3’) for high throughput projects with reduced costs in mind. With a capacity to capture 200 to 1 million cells or nuclei, we can fulfill all your single cell needs.

3’ and 5’ Transcriptome – The 10X Genomics Chromium X system can process 3’ or 5’ gene expression profiles from hundreds to thousands of cells or nuclei. The Illumina Single Cell 3’ system can capture up to 1 million cells and provide cost effective 3’ transcript expression for your individual cell types.

Immune Profiling - The 10X Genomics platform has the ability to perform V(D)J immune profiling experiments for mouse and human models. The Genomics core can provide cell isolation using Miltenyi Biotech MACS antibodies as needed for your project.

Epigenomics- The 10X Genomics portfolio can assay chromatin accessibility at single-cell resolution. The combination of ATAC-Seq with the 10X single-cell barcoding system allows for researchers to gain insight into the roll chromatin conformation has a roll in DNA-protein binding.

Multiomics – The 10X Genomics system can capture both 3’ gene expression and chromatin accessibility within the same single nuclei, providing unparalleled access to unlock transcriptional regulatory pathways.

A 3D visualization of DNA structure in a blue-tinted microscopic environment. The image shows the characteristic double helix structure of DNA with its twisted strands rendered in turquoise and gray. Several spherical molecules, possibly nucleotides or proteins, are visible as textured blue spheres attached to the DNA strands. The background features a soft, ethereal blue glow with subtle bokeh effects, creating depth and scientific atmosphere.

Bioinformatics Services

The core facility is well equipped to handle a wide array of sequencing analysis, with three dedicated bioinformatics analysts on staff. The GBC leverages UB’s Center for Computational Research (CCR) high-performance compute system to rapidly analyze datasets generated at our facility.

Every research project is unique, therefore we highly encourage reaching out to the core facility for project planning and bioinformatics consultation prior to sequencing. Fee-for-service and collaborations-based models are available depending on the project needs.

Put us to work for you

We welcome collaborations on both research projects and commercial endeavors. Contact us prior to submitting samples, as timing and viability of cells is essential for successful processing. During the consultation period we can address your questions and discuss sample preparation for your sequencing project.
