Women-led startup grabs opportunity to work with multimillion-dollar brands

Buffalo Inno reports that Lemma Labs, a Buffalo-based startup located in UB's incubator and labs at the Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences, has made a big pivot that led to profit.

As reported, when Lemma Labs launched in 2020, the company sold its HairID hair testing kit directly to consumers to help them make better product purchasing decisions. About 18 months ago, as co-founders Dalar Bansal and Clare Plunkett were going through UB's Cultivator program, a large haircare brand approached them to test its products, and the team decided to take the leap and pivot their business model.

Now, Lemma Labs conducts testing for beauty products, mostly in the haircare space, from top brands "available in Sephora and multimillion-dollar top lines." Since this shift, Lemma Labs has tripled its revenue.
