UB is proud to offer gender-inclusive communities for undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

A Safe, Comfortable Home

Our gender-inclusive housing options are for UB students who wish to live in a community without an assigned gender. In these communities:

  • Room placement and roommates are not selected on the basis of gender
  • Roommates of different genders may live in the same room or apartment

There are two types of gender-inclusive housing:

1. Alliance Living Learning Program – A community-focused program with learning goals and extra staff support. Ideal for students wanting to embrace diversity in a safe and affirming environment that brings together LGBTQ+ students and straight allies to freely explore issues of gender identity, expression, and sexual orientation.

2. Non-programmatic Gender Inclusive Housing spaces – Designated spaces to accommodate requests for those not seeking to participate in Alliance.

How to Apply

Preferences for the Alliance Community or the Gender Inclusive areas may be submitted as part of your housing application.  Housing applications open in late January and will be accepted for returning students until Feb. 17 and for new students until June 1. Applications will be reviewed and offers will be sent shortly after the respective deadlines.  Space is limited.
