UB is proud to offer gender-inclusive communities for undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

A Safe, Comfortable Home

Our gender-inclusive housing options are for UB students who wish to live in a community without an assigned gender. In these communities:

  • Room placement and roommates are not selected on the basis of gender
  • Roommates of different genders may live in the same room or apartment

There are two types of gender-inclusive housing:

1. Alliance Living Learning Program – A community-focused program with learning goals and extra staff support. Ideal for members of the LGBTQ+ population and straight allies.

2. Non-programmatic Gender Inclusive Housing spaces – Designated spaces to accommodate requests for those not seeking to participate in Alliance.

How to Apply

Alliance Living Learning Community: Applications become available in late January and will be accepted until May. Deadlines for returning students is February 17, 2019. Deadline for new students is May 1. Applications will be reviewed and offers will be sent shortly after the respective deadlines.  Space is limited.

Non-programmatic Gender Inclusive Housing spaces: Housing Services will send out a solicitation email for students interested in living in the gender inclusive housing area in the Hadley Village Apartment.  The returning student email will be sent to eligible students the week of Feb. 16 and the new student email will be sent in late May.  These emails will contain a link for the non-programmatic gender inclusive housing application.
