Although New York state laws have changed, and adult use dispensaries are beginning to open in Western New York, Federal law still prohibits cannabis use, possession and cultivation at educational institutions.

Dispensaries May Be Opening, But Cannabis is Illegal on Campus

The federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act requires that any institution that receives federal funding, such as UB, must maintain a drug policy that prohibits cannabis. In addition, UB’s smoke-free campus policy prohibits smoking or vaping on campus. UB students found in possession of cannabis on campus may be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the University Student Code of Conduct.
