Cap Contest

Each category winner will receive a $50 Alumni Prize Pack (subject to availability) that includes UB- or UB Alumni-branded apparel, hat, mug, license plate holder, decal, PopSocket and/or various other swag. Each category runner-up will receive a $25 Alumni Prize Pack.

• Best in Show Winner will receive a $50 Alumni Prize Pack, including a UB diploma frame from Church Hill Classics, with an approximate retail value of $200.
• Best in Show Runner-Up: will receive a $25 Alumni Prize Pack, including a UB diploma frame from Church Hill Classics, with an approximate retail value of $175.
• Participation Prize: All entries will receive a special gift from the Office of Alumni Engagement and honorable mentions will be selected for all categories.

All eligible entries will be voted on by the Office of Alumni Engagement and volunteers from the Future Alumni Network and the Recent Alumni Leaders.

This contest is open to all registered University at Buffalo undergraduate, graduate, post-doc or professional school students who are age 18 or older and who are graduating during the spring 2024 commencement ceremonies. Participants may submit one handcrafted grad cap design no larger than 10-by-10 inches. Images designed entirely on a computer will not be eligible. Cap designs and photos containing any content that does not adhere to community guidelines, including nudity or references to drugs or alcohol, will not be considered. All entries submitted become the property of University at Buffalo. By participating in this contest, you grant UB permission to use your entire submitted photo and content for design, marketing, advertising and communications purposes. Information provided will not be retained, sold or used in any way other than that which is specifically set forth in these rules.

University at Buffalo may cancel this contest in the event of technical problems or electronic attacks affecting the administration of the contest. Any contest entrant found to intentionally interfere with the operation of the contest, or whose designs are found to be not original, will be disqualified. By your participation in this contest, you agree to release UB from any liability related to the contest or your participation in the contest. UB is not responsible for lost, damaged, delayed or misdirected prizes. Prize(s) may not be redeemed for cash. Prizes may be delivered at a later date. International prize delivery is not guaranteed and will be on an individual basis.

Showcase your talent and UB pride in one of the following categories:

• Most Creative – unique materials used or novel content design
• Most Inspiring – meaningful quotes or personal stories behind the design
• Best Display of UB True Blue – UB pride and showcasing of True Blue spirit
• Most Humorous – hilarious memes, funny jokes, find the laughter from your time at UB
• Best in Show – across all categories, the caps that made the judges go WOW

• A piece of paper, cardboard or other material with square dimensions no larger than 10-by-10 inches.
• Creative materials for decoration (e.g., colored pencils, markers, highlighters, stickers, small printed images or other physical materials). Entries must be handcrafted. 
• Please note: entirely computer-designed images will not be eligible.
