Distribute Panopto Videos

Embedding videos throughout your course using the Panopto Video Embed tool ensures that students in the course have permission to view them.

In any content module:

1. Click Upload/Create
2. Choose Create a File
3. Give the file/item and title
4. Click the Insert Stuff icon
5. Choose Panopto Video Embed (Instructor Only)
6. Choose any Panopto folder on which you are a creator
7. Select a video to share
8. Click Insert
9. Click Insert again
10. Click Save and Close

Panopto automatically adds the course viewer and creator groups to the share settings of individual videos added this way; students will have permission to view regardless of the folder’s permissions.

1. If you have not done so, provision Panopto content in your UB Learns course: 
   • See how to provision Panopto content
   • A default folder is created for the course and section. The name will be similar to: Fall 23 - CHE 201LR A: General Chemistry (12345 Fall 23) – Combined
2. On the navbar click Content
3. Select a module from the Table of Contents on the left.
4. Click Existing Activities and select External Learning Tools.
5. Click Panopto Content.

When students click this link it will open the Panopto course folder within UB Learns and they will see any videos available in that folder.

To hide the Panopto Content folder from students, click the chevron icon next to Panopto Content and select Hide from Users.

You can add Panopto Content as a custom link in the navbar of your course.

In the content module:

1. Click Panopto Content
2. Click in the address bar of the browser
3. Copy the URL. The URL will look like:
   https://ubuffalo.brightspace.com/d2l/le/content/2222/viewContent/22222/View
4. Click the More menu
5. Choose Edit This Navbar
6. Click Add Links
7. Click Create Custom Link
   1. Enter a name for the link
   2. Paste the URL in the URL field
   3. Click Create
   4. Click Add
8. Click Save and Close

1. Locate the session that you want to share. Hover over the video name to reveal options and click Share.

2. Under Who has access click the Link tab.

3. Click the Copy Link button.

4. Paste the link into an email, website, or wherever you might share a link.

5. Check the access permissions to be sure you are sharing with the correct people or groups. See the Share Panopto Recordings page to learn how to share widely or with a small group.

1. Locate the session that you want to share and click Share.

2. Under Who has access click the Embed tab.

3. Adjust the settings such as width and start time.

4. Click Copy Embed Code.  

5. Paste the code into a website or wherever you might embed a video

6. Check the access permissions to be sure you are sharing with the correct people or groups. See Share Panopto Recordings page to learn how to share widely or with a small group.

If you have specialist access to the UBCMS, use an HTML Snippet and paste the embed code into it.
