It is our great pleasure to announce the appointment of two additional Directors in the Office of Sponsored Projects Services:  Ms. Mary Kraft and Mr. Donald Herzog.

Their appointments are both effective September 25, 2013.  With these appointments, this now brings the number of directors to three, which is the size originally contemplated under the current organizational structure.

Following an open search, Ms. Kraft and Mr. Herzog emerged as the leading candidates from a competitive pool.  Because of the unique skills and perspectives they both bring to the position and to the SPS organization, the search committee unanimously recommended appointing two directors, rather than one. Along with the upcoming hire of a new Associate Vice President of SPS -- a search that is still underway -- these new Directors will contribute to the goal of improving customer service for P.I.'s as they interact with SPS.

Mary Kraft has been a committed member of the SPS organization for eleven years. Her skill-set and duties have grown with the organization.  She demonstrates the ability to mentor others, which allows them to better understand the business of research administration while at the same time progress in their careers.  Mary is dedicated to customer satisfaction and has the skills necessary to be successful in this leadership role.

Donald Herzog is a graduate of West Point with strong leadership, organizational and customer service skills.  Donald presented himself as a motivated and caring individual who expressed an interest in building good working relationships with both internal and external customers. We are confident that he can help guide SPS through changes to improve our current work environment and customer satisfaction through mentoring, training and leadership.

These two individuals, along with Marlene Casey, will form a strong leadership team for the SPS organization.  This will better serve the SPS staff and UB's research community.  All Directors will report to the AVP-SPS once that position is filled.

We extend our sincere thanks to all of the members of the search committee for the outstanding service, perspective, and expertise they contributed to ensure the successful outcome of this search.

Congratulations to  Ms. Kraft and Mr. Herzog on their appointments as Directors and in assuming a leadership role within our organization.
