As you prepare to graduate from UB, there are a few important steps to take to make sure you don’t miss UBmail (@buffalo.edu email) messages or lose access to important information.

As a reminder, UBmail (and other services) access ends six months after graduation. If you have enrolled in the upcoming semester or have been hired by UB, your UBIT services will continue uninterrupted.

Set your out-of-office message before access ends

Before your UBmail access expires, set up an out-of-office reply. Once your account is closed, these messages will no longer be sent, making this your last chance to direct people to your new email address/contact information. After that point, emails sent to your UBmail address will be returned as undeliverable.

Use your message to:

  • Share a new or alternate email address
  • Let people know you are no longer reading UBmail messages

What to do before your access ends

To avoid disruptions, take a few minutes to get set up:

  • Move important emails and contacts to a personal account
  • Update any services tied to your UB email (job applications, subscriptions, banking, etc.)
  • Save or transfer any files or data you may need later

Volunteering at UB doesn’t extend UBmail access

If you’re continuing to support a research project after graduating, it’s important to know that volunteer work does not extend your university affiliation or access to systems, including UBmail.
