Wi-Fi for Guests at UB

Connecting to a Guest Wi-Fi Network

From the available Wi-Fi networks on your device, choose UB Guest or UB Connect (whichever is present on your device), then follow the correpsonding directions below.

I see "UB Connect"

Method 1: Use Facebook

Facebook logins are great for a quick connection to a Web browser. Sessions are limited to 30 minutes.

  1. Select UB Connect from the available Wi-Fi networks on your device.
  2. Open a Web browser. The Connect to a UB Network screen will appear.
  3. Click Login as Guest.
  4. Click the Facebook icon on the screen.
  5. Enter your Facebook credentials as indicated, then click Log In.
  6. A window from UB Aruba CPPM Captive Portal will appear. Click Continue. Your sessiion will remain connected for 30 minutes.

Method 2: Create a Guest Account

Connecting with a registered guest account is ideal for guests who need sessions that last longer than 30 minutes.

  1. Select UB Connect from the available Wi-Fi networks on your device.
  2. Open a Web browser and go to https://clearpass-portal1.cit.buffalo.edu/guest/Guest_Login.php.
  3. On the UB Network: Guest Account Login screen, click Create a New Guest Account, in the green callout box.
  4. Enter:
    • Your first and last name in the Your Name field.
    • Your non-UB email address in the Email Address field.
  5. Check the box to accept the terms of use.
  6. Click Create Account.
  7. A browser will open. You have 30 minutes to check your email for your password so you can log in.
  8. Go to https://clearpass-portal1.cit.buffalo.edu/guest/Guest_Login.php.
  9. Decide how long you need to connect:
  • 30  minutes or less:
    1. Enter your email address in the Username field.
    2. Enter the password sent to your email in the Password field.
    3. Click Create Device.
  • Up to 6 months:
    1. Click Register This Device.
    2. Enter:
      • Your email address in the Username field.
      • The guest password sent to your email in the Password field.
    3. Click Log In.
    4. Enter a unique name for your device, such as Jane Doe's Macbook.
    5. If the MAC Address is not filled in, enter the MAC Address for your device.
    6. Click Create Device.

I see "UB Guest"

  1. Select UB Guest from the available Wi-Fi networks on your device.
  2. Open your Web browser, if it doesn't open automatically.
  3. You will be automatically directed to a login page. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  4. Enter your complete email address in the Enter your email address field.
  5. Click Accept Terms and Connect.

Connecting to eduroam

Visitors whose schools participate in eduroam can connect to eduroam at UB. Configure your device while still at your school. Once at UB:

  1. Select eduroam from the available Wi-Fi networks.
  2. Log in using your school email address and password.

Contact your school's IT support for help using eduroam at UB, not UB's IT support.

You are bound by the host institution's network and security policies. Some services may not be available if they rely on something prohibited or blocked by UB. eduroam is a secure Wi-Fi network.

All devices are different. For most devices, you can Google Find MAC Address and your device, e.g. Find MAC Address iPad, for instructions on how to find your device's MAC Address.
