Learn more about UB ISS Academic Success Workshops designed to assist new incoming & continuing undergraduate international students with navigating the academic rigors of a US university.
New incoming and continuing undergraduate international students are strongly encouraged to attend the workshops listed below to learn about various academic success topics and meet other new incoming international students as well as UB Staff and Offices that can assist them with their academic success at UB and beyond!
International Undergraduate Students are invited to attend this event to meet UB Staff who are available to assist them with their academic success in their first semester. UB Staff presenting include the ISS Student Success Advisor, Olga Crombie, Center for Excellence in Writing (CEW) Director, Dr. Rhonda Reid, and Tutoring and Academic Support Services (TASS) Director, Vivian Jimenez. An ice cream sundae bar will be provided!
Join the ISS Student Success Advisor and the ISS Academic Success Student Advocates for free pie as we cover the topic of conducting presentations and what it means to participate in a US university classroom. It can be nerve-racking to speak up in class or present information to a group of people, so this is an opportunity to learn how to do both! It's also an excellent opportunity to make some new friends and meet the ISS Student Success Advisor and the amazing ISS Academic Success Student Advocates who are here to support you!!
The Center for Excellence in Writing (CEW) will address the controversial topic of the use of AI tools in the writing process. In this session, you will learn what AI does well and what it does not do well at all! You will also receive guidelines about the ethical and developmental uses of AI and how to avoid academic integrity violations. Bring all the questions you have!

What does it take to be a critical reader? Critical Reading is as much what you need to know as it is what and how you should read your texts. Knowing this will allow you to learn and apply what you are reading more effectively. In this session, we will go over strategies that will help you become a more effective critical reader. We will examine the types of readings, and what is required, as well as look at a few methods that will aid in your success at university.
Join TASS (Tutoring & Academic Support Services) and ISS to discover strategies for time management, goal setting and study skills. Learn effective strategies for academic success and how to increase your motivation through this interactive and informative workshop. Get help preparing for finals all while enjoying some delicious scones!
