As you prepare for move-in, use this guide below to make sure you have and do everything you need to before arriving. We look forward to having you call UB your home away from home!
The following tabs detail the items included in residence hall rooms and apartments. Contact your roommate and decide what you’ll each bring. You may only need limited amounts of residence hall and apartment items, (carpets etc...). Remember that many items can be purchased once you get to UB. There are items that are prohibited, so review the list before you pack!
All students with on campus housing applications must be registered for classes by August 1 to remain eligible for housing.
*Please note that MicroFridges are not permitted in Greiner Hall due to the building’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification and sustainability commitments.
Purchase renters insurance if you are not covered by your parent/guardian's policy. Buy coverage before you get to UB. This is highly suggested for both residence hall and apartment residents.
Connecting your new technology is a big part of getting settled!
UB provides encrypted Wi-Fi access with the eduroam network, available in on-campus apartments and residence halls. Configure your devices before you arrive on campus.
In order to streamline the move in process, all students will be required to make a move-in appointment in the housing portal. After arriving during your appointment time, you will have three hours to complete your move in.
Appointment times will be staggered in one-hour increments. Each appointment time will be limited to a set number of students in each building.

If you are moving in after 5 p.m. on the first day of classes, please complete the late arrival notification form (available in August or sooner) so that the Campus Living Housing Services office may hold your room.
If you are attending UB and do not move in by the move-in date or notify us of a delay:
Each residential area on-campus has its own mail and package area. Students are provided their own mailbox for flat mail. Notifications are NOT sent out to students for flat mail placed in their mailboxes. It is up to the student to check their mailbox periodically to retrieve it.
Students will be notified via their ‘buffalo.edu’ email with details of where to retrieve packages.
All USPS mail is first delivered to our centralized Campus Mail center, located on North Campus. From there it is processed and sent to our individual residential areas for delivery. All packages are ready for pick up within 2 business days of arriving on campus.
The transition from high school to college (or from living at home to living at college) can be as challenging for parents and family members as it is for students. Campus Living has put together helpful information to help you make the transition as smooth as possible, and enjoy this milestone.
Students should be familiar with the Guide to Campus Living, their housing agreement and other documents that they can find on our website.
We encourage you to let your student address the questions and concerns they may have. This approach may feel different to you at first—especially if you are accustomed to helping your student on a day-to-day basis. Our goal is to help prepare your student for the “real world” by teaching them how to solve their own problems.
Of course, if you have other concerns (including health and safety issues) that you wish to address with our staff, please feel free to contact us at any time.
