UB students, faculty and staff who have connected a personal device to eduroam Wi-Fi before August 10, 2026, will need to re-connect by October 29, 2026 to stay on UB’s Wi-Fi network.
If you set up your personal device to connect to eduroam Wi-Fi with the Connection Wizard after August 10, 2026, then you do not need to set up your device again.
UB students, faculty, and staff who connected a personal device to eduroam with the Connection Wizard before August 10, 2026, such as a:
will need to re-do that process from those personal devices by October 29, 2026 to stay connected to eduroam, UB’s safe and official Wi-Fi network.
To re-connect your personal device, you will need to remove your existing eduroam connection profile and set up your device with UB’s updated Connection Wizard tool. Full instructions are available for you at buffalo.edu/ubit/wifi.
Faculty and staff UB-managed devices should receive this update automatically. If you have any problems connecting your UB-managed device to eduroam Wi-Fi, contact the UBIT Help Center or your departmental IT support team.
This update is necessary because InCommon, the service that supports eduroam, has transitioned to a new vendor. As part of that change, UB Information Technology is moving to a new certificate model that provides a more sustainable long-term solution.
The need for the UB community to re-connect their personal devices to eduroam Wi-Fi is the result of changes affecting many colleges and universities, not just the University at Buffalo. Institutions across higher education are taking similar steps to update Wi-Fi certificate settings to maintain access to eduroam.
This requirement is not due to any problem with eduroam Wi-Fi’s network security or connectivity.
eduroam is UB’s official, fast and secure Wi-Fi network, available for UB students, faculty and staff at all three campuses. It’s available at thousands of participating locations worldwide. If you travel to another campus with eduroam, your devices will automatically connect.
Step-by-step instructions for connecting any device to eduroam Wi-Fi with the Connection Wizard are available at buffalo.edu/ubit/wifi.
You do not need to go through this process alone. The UB Tech Squad is available for all UB students to help set up their personal devices to eduroam Wi-Fi. Visit their walk-up location at the Silverman (Capen) third floor library , or book an appointment for UB Tech Squad to meet you anywhere on North or South Campus at buffalo.edu/ubit/help.
UB faculty and staff who need help connecting to eduroam Wi-Fi should contact their departmental IT support team. UB students, faculty and staff can also contact the UBIT Help Center at (716) 645-3542 email ubithelp@buffalo.edu or submit a ticket at buffalo.edu/ubit/help for assistance.
