Manually Setting Your e911 Location

Manually set your location using the steps below when physically present at that location.  Failure to follow this procedure will result in the wrong address being presented to the 911 dispatcher when calling for emergency services.

Instructions

Important:

Thees instructions are only required when on Campus using Wi-Fi or when working remotely: DO NOT SET YOUR LOCATION AHEAD OF TIME.

Adding a Location - UB Wi-Fi network

Manually set your address location using the steps below when physically present at that location.

1. In Cisco Call, click on the ellipsis (…) next to Call Settings in the upper right corner and select E911

2. Complete the fields in the Edit Emergency 911 Address pop-up.  You must use the official UB building service address for the location, or it will fail the address look up.  Please refer to the  official service address spreadsheet with Campus Mail for the correct street and ZIP code information.  You can add your specific room location in the free-form field at the bottom.

3. Select Save and the client will check with our E911 cloud provider that a valid, dispatchable location has been submitted.

  • When done correctly you will see Address successfully saved.
  • If the address fails, you will have to correct the mistake and press Save again:

Adding a Location – Home Office/Remote Work Location

Use the same steps as above, with the following notes:

  • Manually set your home office/remote work location when physically present.  This only needs to be done once, and the system will “remember” your selection each time you are logged onto your home network.
  • Important: The syntax of your home address must match 100% with what’s on file with your local county, or else the lookup with fail.  For example, if you use “Maple Road” it might fail because the county has it as “Maple Rd”.
  • Tip: If you’re uncertain of the syntax, use Google Maps to get the correct information for your address.
