Fixed Admission Rule Temporary Pause
On September 14, 2026, a U.S. District Court Judge issued a preliminary injunction on the published rule Establishing a Fixed Time Period of Admission and an Extension of Stay Procedure for F and J students. This order temporarily pauses the implementation of the rule until the court issues a further decision. The visa status of F&J visa-holders remains unchanged. ISS is closely monitoring this situation and will provide more information and guidance as it becomes available.

Our in-person welcome programs build on the information and connections introduced through UB’s online pre-arrival information sessions. These programs provide incoming international graduate students with opportunities to connect with peers, explore campus, access resources, and begin building a strong sense of belonging at the University at Buffalo
- Access your event pass to check into an event:
- Go to ublinked.buffalo.edu
- Sign in to UBLinked using your UBIT username and password
- Tap your profile icon in the top right corner
- Tap on the QR code to enlarge your ‘Event Pass’
- Save your UBLinked Event Pass to your phone's wallet, take a screenshot and keep it in your camera roll, or sign in to UBLinked every time you check in to an event!
- You will use the UBLinked Event pass when attending many other events at activities while at UB.

ISW Community Connections Program
The ISW Community Connections program introduces new and transfer international students to sites and activities in Western New York.

The ISW Fee (listed on your student account as “International Student ISS Fall Orientation – Full Program”) is a one-time charge of $125 for all new F-1 graduate students and SIM international students. (J-1 Exchange students will not see this fee added to their student account.)
This fee supports International Student Welcome programs, activities, sessions, and materials. It will appear on your student account in the second or third billing cycle.
Please note: The ISW fee is charged to all new international students, whether or not you attend ISW events, activities, sessions, or receive welcome items.
