Lumi Study Support

Instructors can use Lumi Study Support to generate suggestions for content to review and/or a 2-3 sentence overview for students based on quiz results. Students will see a message that Study Support is AI-assisted.

Lumi Study Support cannot be activated in quizzes with any of the following.

  • More than 20 questions
  • Written response questions (only auto-graded questions are supported)

Lumi Study Support Supported Content Types

Lumi Study Support recommendations are generated from content selected by the instructor.

  • Web pages/HTML file in UB Learns (created using Upload/Create > Create a File)
  • Uploaded files in the following formats: doc, .docx, .odt, .pdf, .ppt, .pps, .pptx, .ppsx, .odp, .xls, .xlsx, .rtf and .txt
  • Web Links (created using Upload/Create > Create a Link)
  • Media Library items (audio and video are supported, but they must have transcripts in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese or Dutch)

Activating Lumi Study Support in a Quiz

Once Study Support is activated, the following changes are applied to the quiz. Deactivating Study Suppport allows instructors to modify those quiz settings.

  • Access to the Customize Quiz Result Display area is disabled.
  • Results will be automatically published after each attempt.
  • Grades will be displayed to learners immediately after submission.
  • The option to display No Questions for attempt results is disabled.
  • The question list in the quiz is set to read-only, so the questions cannot be edited until Study Support is deactivated.
    • Questions from the Question Library can still be edited in the Question Library, and those questions will be updated in the quiz.
  1. On the navbar, click Assessments and select Quizzes.
  2. Click the chevron icon next to the quiz name and select Edit.
  3. Click Evaluation & Feedback in the right column.
  4. Click the toggle switch for Study Support.
  5. Click Select course activities in the Set up Study Support section.
  6. Select up to 50 content topics.
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Activate Study Support.

To decativate Study Suppport, toggle the switch off.

Viewing Study Suppport Recommendations Received by Students

Students

Students will see the follow message when starting a quiz that has Study Support activated.

Your instructor has enabled Study Support for this quiz. You may see an AI generated message upon completion of the quiz on the quiz result page.

After submitting an attempt, students can view Study Support recommendations and overviews on the quiz results page.

  1. On the navbar, click Assessments and select Quizzes.
  2. Click On Attempt for the quiz.
  3. Click Attempt #.

Instructors

Instructors can view Study Support recommendations for a student's submission on the quiz attempt page.

  1. On the navbar, click Assessments and select Quizzes.
  2.  Click the chevron icon next to the quiz name and select Grade.
  3. Click Attempt # for the desired attempt.
  4. Study Support recommendations are shown on the right of the attempt page.
