Lumi Question

Lumi Question generates questions from topics in the Content area of a course or from text uploaded directly to Lumi Question.

Lumi Question is only available in the Question Library of a course.

Once created, questions can be added to any quiz in the course.

Supported Question Types

Lumi Question can generate the following question types.

  • Multiple Choice
  • True or False
  • Written Response
  • Short Answer
  • Multi-Select

Supported Content Types

Lumi Question can generate quiz questions from the following types of topics in the Content area of a course.

  • Web pages/HTML files in UB Learns (created using Upload/Create > Create a File)
  • Uploaded files in the following formats: doc, .docx, .odt, .pdf, .ppt, .pps, .pptx, .ppsx, .odp, .xls, .xlsx, .rtf and .txt
  • Media Library topics (audio and video are supported, but they must have transcripts in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese or Dutch)

Questions can also be generated from text pasted in to the Custom Text field on the Generate Questions page.

Generating Questions in the Question Library

Lumi Question is only available in the Question Library of a course.

Once created, questions can be added to any quiz in the course.

  1. On the navbar, click Assessments and select Quizzes.
  2. Click Question Library.
  3. Click Generate Questions.
  4. Select Course Content from the Content Source drop-down menu.
    • Instructors can also select Custom Text to use text that is not uploaded to UB Learns.
  5. Click the Select Content link (right below the directions in Content Source, but above Number of Questions). Only one piece of content can be selected at a time when generating questions.
  6. Select the number of questions (3-10) from the Number of Questions drop-down menu.
  7. Select a question type from the Question Type drop-down menu.
  8. Select a level from the Bloom’s Taxonomy drop-down menu if desired.
  9. Click Generate.
  10. All questions must be reviewed. Click Pending Review for the first question.
  11. Make any necessary edits.
  12. Do one of the following:
    • Click Keep and Next to move to the next question that needs to be reviewed.
      OR
    • Click Discard and Next to delete the question and move to the next question.
      OR
    • Click Close This Question to return to the list of questions. The question will still need to be reviewed.
  13. Repeat until all the questions have been reviewed. All questions should now be labeled Reviewed or Edited.
  14. Click Save to Section in the Generated Questions dialog box. Sections in the Question Library are used to organize questions.
  15. Select Save to Current Section (the section where you started or the top directory if not in a section) or Create New Section and enter a section title in the text box.
  16. Click Save.

Questions from the Question Library can be added to a quiz as individual questions.

  1. On the navbar, click Assessments and select Quizzes.
  2. Click the chevron icon next to a quiz name and select Edit.
  3. Click Add Existing in the Questions section and select Browse Question Library.
  4. Select the desired questions.
  5. Click Import.

Questions from the Question Library can also be added to a question pool.

  1. On the navbar, click Assessments and select Quizzes.
  2. Click the chevron icon next to a quiz name and select Edit.
  3. Click Create New  in the Questions section and select Question Pool.
  4. Click Browse Question Library.
  5. Select the desired questions.
  6. Click Import.
  7. Enter information in the Question Pool Title, Number of Questions to Select and Points per Question fields.
  8. Click Save.
