As reported by Buffalo Inno, Vicora and Ampullae—two local medical device startups lead by Rick Ducharme and Matt Colpoys—are working to advance the technology while seeking to find industry partners to acquire and license the technology to reach commercialization more quickly.
Vicora solves a specific problem in the treatment of many vascular diseases by using uses vibrations to unclog catheter. Ampullae’s technology is a flexible guidewire sensor that acts as an indicator of how much force is being applied to the tip of an endovascular device. Both technologies are on their way to getting U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval.
Both startups have been awarded funds from the University at Buffalo Center for Advanced Technology in Big Data and Health Sciences, a project cost-sharing grant program aimed at growing health and life sciences businesses in New York state. The startups have received additional funds and have plans to continue hiring to accelerate their progress.
