Climate change, sea level rise, Greenland Ice Sheet, Antarctic ice loss, glaciers, using satellite data and laser altimetry to measure the Earth
Beata Csatho is an expert on ice sheets and sea level rise.
She has conducted extensive research on the two largest masses of ice on Earth — the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets — with the goal of understanding how these entities are shrinking and contributing to sea level rise as the planet’s climate warms.
Her research aims to improve predictions by using remote sensing to monitor how ice sheets and glaciers are changing on Earth. In December 2014, for example, she and colleagues published a study that used NASA satellite and aerial data to reconstruct how the height of the Greenland Ice Sheet changed at nearly 100,000 locations from 1993 to 2012.
Csatho is affiliated with NASA’s cryospheric science program and sea level change activities. She was a science team member on satellite and aerial missions that studied the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, and continues to conduct research with NASA support.
