Eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, atypical anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder.
Lisa Ranzenhofer can talk to media about factors contributing to eating disorders and which symptoms may be a cause for concern. She can discuss why screening for eating disorders in children, adolescents and adults is needed, especially in general mental health and weight management settings, where the reason the patient is being seen is not directly related to eating disorders, but in which prevalence of eating disorders is likely to be higher than the general population.
She can talk about how weight and body mass index (BMI) are population-level tools, so not necessarily applicable to individuals. Ranzenhofer can discuss atypical anorexia nervosa, which involves all the core symptoms of anorexia nervosa but the patient’s weight is not what is traditionally labeled as underweight. She can also discuss treatment of eating disorders across development, including in kids, teens, and adults.
Ranzenhofer is a clinician with UBMD Psychiatry.
