Toxic metals and child development, lead exposure, health effects of metal mixtures, nutrient-metal interactions, air pollution
Katarzyna “Kasia” Kordas can talk to the media about the health effects of exposure to lead and other harmful metals and chemicals, particularly in children.
Kordas’ research has evolved from focusing on lead to studying multiple metals and minerals, including arsenic and manganese. Her work has also incorporated air pollution to examine exposures within a broader context.
While Kordas can offer insight into U.S. cases of lead exposure — such as the Flint, Michigan water crisis— she has also worked in international settings.
One of Kordas’ research sites is in Montevideo, Uruguay, where she has worked on developing a research program in pediatric environmental epidemiology. Projects there include conducting a longitudinal study on the cognitive and behavioral effects of low-level exposure to multiple metals in school-aged children.
