One of Student Life's newest initiatives, UBuffalo Esports represents the university in high-level competitive play as a member of the Esports Collegiate Conference. Varsity teams compete in games such as Overwatch, League of Legends and Rocket League.
Launched in 2020, UBuffalo Esports provides an opportunity to engage students in competitive gaming. Esports allows students to build critical thinking and strategy skills, and encourages teamwork and comradery. UB’s Esports Gaming Club already boasts more than 350 members, and that number is growing rapidly. The university continues to plan for additional venues, as interest in this emerging student experience continues to grow.
To continue the quest of implementing an emerging Esports program on campus, Student Life's primary focus includes identifying physical spaces for competitive and recreational game play. These spaces will allow students to explore common interests, participate in Esports activities and provide inclusivity and wellness for all participants.
