Recording and Exporting Your Messages with Audacity

Instructions

Step 1: Set Options Prior to Recording

1. Select the desired microphone device from the drop-down microphone list.

Note: Using the built-in PC microphone will produce a low playback volume.

2. Select 8000 from the Project Rate Hz drop-down.

3. Select (Mono) Recording from the Set Input Channel drop-down.

Step 2: Exporting Recorded Prompts (Audacity 2.4.2)

1. Select  File  > Export > Export as WAV.

2. Choose the desired location to save the file.

3. Enter a File name.

4. For Save as type, select WAV (Microsoft).

5. For Encoding, select U-Law.

6. Click Save.

Step 2: Exporting Recorded Prompts (Older versions of Audacity)

1. Select File > Export > Export as WAV.

2. Choose the desired location to save the file.

3. Enter a File name.

4. For Save as type, select Other uncompressed files. You will now see additional Format Options for Header and Encoding.

5. For Header, select WAV (Microsoft).

6. For Encoding, select U-Law.

7. Click Save.
