Initiatives (Ongoing)

UBIT Organizational Restructuring

In early 2026, UBIT launched a significant reorganization to strengthen coordination, improve service delivery, and better meet the evolving needs of the university. The work includes new cabinet-level AVP positions and several new or retooled groups. Over 75 position descriptions were updated as a result of our realignment.

  • Innovation: A stand-alone unit dedicated to exploring, testing, and scaling emerging technologies, especially AI and related digital tools, in a secure and coordinated way.
  • IT Customer Experience (ITCX): A rebrand and expansion of UBIT Customer Service, bringing together support across the Help Center, Tech Squad, public computing, printing, customer devices, classroom technology, video capture, and learning space design.
  • Research IT: A dedicated unit supporting UB’s expanding research enterprise with secure, reliable, and scalable technology services.
  • Identity & Access Management (IAM): A unit focused on modernizing identity lifecycle and access governance so the right people have the right access at the right time.
  • CIO Administrative Operations: A unit providing the operational foundation that enables technology teams across UB to work effectively.
  • Infrastructure: Networking/Telecommunications and Enterprise Infrastructure Services have consolidated under one AVP to improve collaboration across interconnected areas.
