Buffalo Esports teams represent the university in high-level competitive play and provide students with opportunity to build critical thinking and strategy skills.
Buffalo Esports moved from club to varsity status in 2020 based on its growing popularity with students and the ongoing commitment by the university to support competitive gameplay.
Buffalo Esports is a member of the Esports Collegiate Conference, competing in highly popular games such as Overwatch, League of Legends and Rocket League.
Not ready for varsity play? SUNY League is available for intermural play. UB students interested in the SUNY league should join the UBuffalo Esports Discord to work with the different clubs and to register.
Buffalo Esports is a member of the Esports Collegiate Conference (ESC), competing in Valorant, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, and Rocket League. The ESC is run by the MAC and contains many of the same teams.
Buffalo Esports currently houses clubs for games like Valorant League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike (CS: GO), Overwatch 2, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, and Rainbow Six Siege as well as many others. Check out our discord - if we don’t have what you’re looking for, you can start your own micro-community.
If you would like to find people interested in a game you are passionate about, join the UBuffalo Esports Discord and message a board member.
The UB Student Gaming Association is a student-run club under the Buffalo Esports Office. This open group for UB students allows them to connect and progress through an experience that can provide them with various ways to explore their shared interests and engage with their peers. Students can choose to either be a community member or have the opportunity to engage further.
Form or join an already established game community group that provides weekly events in various game titles.
These teams are open to all active members within the Student Gaming Association and, depending on league or conference, may have specific academic requirements for participation.
Tip: This is an excellent pipeline for students looking to level up to Varsity to establish themselves in the program.
UB-organized competitive play against other gamers outside the university community, this is an opportunity for them to refine their skills through prearranged tournaments.
There is a lot of work that goes into the operations of a gaming association. Some students looking to take on leadership opportunities will have the ability to connect and lead their community through several staff roles, including games community officers, production team, student managers, student coaches and more.
