Working With Session Restrictions
To enhance academic integrity, instructors can restrict a quiz attempt to a single browser session. This helps prevent another individual from logging in as the student and collaborating on the same quiz attempt.
Before enabling session restrictions, instructors should be aware that if a student's browser session is interrupted for any reason—such as accidentally quitting the browser, a browser crash, an automatic session reset or an unexpected computer restart—the student will be unable to resume the quiz until the instructor manually resets the session restriction. For these reasons, session restrictions are recommended only for quizzes that are:
- High-stakes
- Timer-enabled
- Proctored (instructor is available to manually reset session restrictions)
When using session restrictions, instructors should:
- Inform students before the quiz.
- Provide clear instructions regarding whom to contact if a session restriction reset is needed.
- Please note that the UB Learns support team cannot reset session restrictions.
If there is a reason to suspect that a student may have committed an act of academic dishonesty, instructors are highly encouraged to review UB Learns logs for inconsistencies with IP addresses and time on task. For additional guidance regarding suspected academic dishonesty, please contact the Office of Academic Integrity.
