Oracle: Linux Download for UB-Owned Computers

The Oracle Database is an object-relational database management system.

SUNY has negotiated a site license for most of the Oracle products. UB is covered under this license with the conditions paraphrased as follows:

Oracle grants to SUNY a nonexclusive, nontransferable license to use the Oracle Programs on any and all CPU's owned, leased to or under the sole control of SUNY and located at all state-operated institutions of SUNY.

Affiliated institutions may also use the software on their CPU's. Affiliated institutions include statutory or contract colleges, community colleges, the Construction Fund, the Research Foundation, the Rockefeller Institute. Affiliated institutions may only use the software if they agree in writing to be bound by the terms of the agreement.

Downloading Oracle Instant Client for Linux

The Oracle product distributions are stored in compressed files. We recommend that you download the Instant Client version that matches the Database Server version you are connecting to.

Using Oracle

Documentation for Oracle products are available on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN). OTN requires an account user name and password once a document set is chosen. You may sign up on the site for an OTN account, which is free of charge.

Information regarding installation should be obtained by the service for which you intend to use the client, as the installation can be different for each application.
