In 2021, we added and expanded Wi-Fi in outdoor areas on North Campus—and there’s more to come. Outdoor Wi-Fi is also being added to more South Campus spaces in the coming years.
Once you connect your devices to eduroam Wi-Fi, you’ll be connected—and stay connected, seamlessly—moving in and out of these central areas on campus.
Prior to 2021, Wi-Fi was already available outdoors along most of the academic spine on UB’s North Campus, and at several common outdoor areas and parking lots on South Campus. In 2020, coverage was expanded to include Furnas, Parker and Greiner parking lots to accommodate distance work and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2021, this expansion has continued, with UBIT’s Network and Communication Services team upgraded and improved Wi-Fi in the following outdoor locations:
Expansions that began in 2020 and 2021 will continue for the next few years, with an increased focus on South Campus.
Wi-Fi will be available in common outdoor spaces around Crosby and Foster Halls, on either side of Abbott Library. Coverage will also be added to the Main St. side of Allen Hall.
On North Campus, Wi-Fi will also be boosted on Mary Talbert Way, along the north side of Capen Hall (near One World Café).
Whether indoors or out, eduroam is UB’s preferred Wi-Fi on campus.
Why? Because it’s a secure network that, once you register your devices, will always provide you with fast Wi-Fi within range on UB’s campuses.
eduroam is also available at hundreds of other schools all over the U.S. (and many outside of the U.S.), which means your UBITName credentials will automatically connect you to secure Wi-Fi when traveling for conferences or other school-related business.

If you’re experiencing poor connectivity, please be sure to mention to IT support staff where you were when you experienced problems, and which device you were using.
