As part of UB’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, the university is preparing for a significant transition to chosen names within several systems throughout campus.
Starting in mid-June 2024, changes will take effect in UBmail (Exchange Online), Microsoft 365 applications, including MS Teams, and Zoom. Individuals who have set their chosen name through UB Human Resources (for faculty and staff) or HUB Student Center (for students) will have their chosen names shown within these systems.
To avoid delays displaying chosen names please complete this process before June 1, 2024. Any changes made after June 1 may require a few days for implementation across campus systems.
The Chosen Name committee identified over 200 software systems on campus and is currently conducting an assessment to identify which should include chosen names. They continue to add and review additional systems as they are identified.
For years, UB has been dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment for all members of its community. In line with this commitment, UB’s chosen name committee has been working to integrate preferred and chosen names into campus systems university-wide. These efforts not only reflect UB's mission but also comply with directives from the SUNY Board of Trustees, outlined in 2022.
