UB has created a strategic plan to move the university toward Zero Waste. Our goal is to reduce the amount of physical waste that is produced across our campuses. The plan specifically focuses on how to improve UB's campus-wide recycling diversion rate and expand composting opportunities.
Help UB Football tackle ZERO WASTE.
Since the 2014 football season, UB students have volunteered to help UB Stadium go green, by ensuring fans recycle and compost.
Over the last 5 seasons, we've diverted over 5 tons of compost from the landfill.
Games are divided into three, 3 hour shifts to make it easier to help out.
First shift: Start time is 2 hours prior to kick-off. End time is one hour after kick-off.
Volunteers for this shift will be responsible for set-up prior to game. Some possible tasks include: arranging collection barrels; ensuring signs are in place; lining barrels with bags; educating fans
Second shift: Start time is one hour prior to kick-off. End time is two and a half hours into the game.
Volunteers for this shift will be responsible for servicing recycling and compost containers. Some possible tasks include: educating fans; transporting materials from inside the stadium to outside the stadium; communicating with concessions staff; collecting materials from concessions and suites.
Third shift: Start time is 2 hours after kick-off. End time is dependent upon when the game ends, and amount of clean-up required.
Volunteers for this shift will be responsible for servicing recycling and compost containers, and post-game break-down. Some possible tasks include: educating fans; transporting materials from inside the stadium to outside the stadium; collecting materials from concessions and suites; securing signage; storing Zero Waste education materials; ensuring collection equipment is secured.
If you have a shift preference, please let us know. Shifts are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.
