All In One Recycling

Recycling at UB is all in one—no sorting required. Place all recyclable materials, including paper, boxes, bottles, cans and containers, in the same receptacle, and always keep trash out of recycling containers.

The key to a successful recycling program is eliminating contamination. Just because an item can be recycled does not mean it is accepted in UB's recycling bins. Bins become contaminated when an item not accepted in UB's program is placed in a recycling container. Make sure food and beverage containers are empty before recycling. If you're unsure whether an item is accepted, place it in the trash.

What Can Be Recycled in the All In One Bins?

Paper Items and Cardboard

  • paper coffee cups
  • white and colored paper
  • shredded paper (in clear plastic bags)
  • newspaper
  • magazines and catalogs
  • junk mail
  • cardboard boxes (please breakdown and place behind recycling bins)
  • pizza boxes (remove wax paper)
  • paperback books
  • files and folders
  • paperboard (paper towel rolls, food boxes)

Glass Jars and Bottles

  • beverage bottles (including bottles with a deposit) 
  • food jars 
  • wine bottles

Metal

  • aluminum cans
  • steel and tin cans
  • clean aluminum foil 
  • clean foil take-away containers
  • metal cookware 

Plastic Bottles, Jugs, Tubs and Lids

  • beverage bottles (including bottles with a deposit)
  • shampoo and conditioner bottles (no tubes please)
  • kitchen, laundry and bath containers
  • clamshell-style packaging

What CANNOT Be Recycled in the All In One Bins?

The following items are considered trash. Please do NOT place these items in campus recycling bins.

Paper Items and Cardboard

  • hardcover books
  • napkins
  • tissue paper
  • paper towels
  • waxed paper
  • wrapping paper
  • receipts
  • any paper product which has the potential to be contaminated with bodily fluids

Plastics

  • plastic shopping bags 
  • plastic "baggies"
  • shrink wrap and bubble wrap
  • plastic cutlery 
  • styrofoam containers, packaging and peanuts

Glass Jars and Bottles

  • light bulbs
  • mirrors
  • window panes
  • ceramic
  • crystal
  • ANY broken glass should be wrapped in paper and placed in a sealed box labeled "BROKEN GLASS"

Metal

  • aerosal cans
  • motor oil cans
  • metal and cardboard containers 
  • paint cans
