Using the Document Camera in a Panopto Recording

Centrally Scheduled Classrooms are equipped with document cameras (doc cams, also known as Wolf Visualizers). These doc cams are connected to the internal PC so you can share whatever you write on the doc camin your Panopto recording.

Instructions

Basic Doc Cam Recording

  1. Open Panopto
  2. Under Secondary Sources:
    1. Uncheck Capture PowerPoint
    2. Click Add Another Video Source
    3. Choose Wolfvison UVC Camera or WolfVision Video Capture II
  3. Start recording
  4. Minimize Panopto

Tip: If you will only be using the doc cam, you can uncheck Capture Main Screen as well.

Advanced

If you would like to capture the doc cam at the same time as PowerPoint or some other program on the internal PC:

  1. Open VLC Media Player (on the desktop, in the MediaPlayers folder)
  2. Click Media > Open capture device
    • Video device name = Wolfvison UVC Camera or WolfVision Video Capture II
    • Audio device name = None (any other choice will result in audio feedback)
  3. Click Play
  4. Open the other program you want to display
  5. Resize the windows so they show up side-by-side
  6. Open Panopto
  7. Under Secondary Sources, uncheck Capture PowerPoint
  8. Start recording
  9. Minimize Panopto

The PC screen will be captured showing both VLC and any other program you’ve opened so they can be seen by viewers at the same time.
