Checklist for Working Remotely
Using your UB-provided laptop is the best option for working remotely. However, if you don’t have a UB laptop and need to use your personal computer, follow these steps to prepare.
1. Ensure that your computer is updated and secure
If you don’t have a UB-provided laptop, you’ll need to take extra steps to make sure your work stays secure:
- Make sure you have the latest version of your computer's OS installed
- Use Microsoft Defender that came with your Windows computer or, for Mac, download and install AVG AntiVirus to prevent viruses
- Follow our browser-hardening recommendations
2. Make sure you will have access to a Duo-enrolled device
3. Get ready to access UB's virtual private networks, if necessary
- Which VPN you use will vary depending on what you are trying to do:
4. Gather everything else you’ll need to be productive
- Think about calling into meetings or video conferencing: does your computer have a built-in microphone and speaker? Do you need a headset for your phone?
- Don’t forget any important work files or other equipment, like power adapters, that you’ll need to bring home from the office
