Activate Your UBITName: International Student

1. Gather your UB information

  • UBITName and One-Time Password: Sent by email from International Admissions approximately one week after you were accepted to UB.
  • The last four digits of your Person Number: Included in your Acceptance packet mailed to you from International Admissions and also available in your UB application portal.

Send an email to intadmit@buffalo.edu if you are missing any of the above items.

2. Log into the UBITName Manager and follow instructions

1. Log in to  the UBITName Manager

2. Enter your UBITName in all lowercase letters and click or tap Continue

3. Enter your One Time Password, last 4 digits of your UB Person Number and the two-digit month of your birth, then click or tap Continue

4. Review and accept the Computing, Network and Telecommunications Usage policy

5. You must set at least one of the listed recovery options:

  • Non-UB email address
  • Mobile number (SMS)
  • Security questions

You can add additional recovery options later.

5a. If you selected Non-UB email address, enter your non-UB email address and click or tap Update

  • Enter the verification code sent to your non-UB email address, then click or tap Verify

5b. If you selected Mobile number (SMS), enter your mobile number, starting with a plus sign followed by the country code, area code and your cell number, then click or tap Update

  • Enter the PIN that was sent to your mobile number and click or tap Verify

5c. If you selected Security questions, select a security question from the drop-down menus for each question, enter an answer in the field below it, then enter the answer again to confirm it. You may optionally create your own custom question and answer, enter the answer again to confirm it  Click or tap Update

6. Once you are back at the main menu, you should add at least one additional recovery method

7. Once you are done, don't forget to logout. To logout, select your UBITName in the top right corner of your screen and click or tap Logout

3. Associate a personal device with your UBITName

Common questions

Having trouble loading the activation page or CAPTCHA?

Some students outside the United States may be using networks where parts of the UBITName activation process do not load correctly, including required security checks such as CAPTCHA.

If the activation page or CAPTCHA does not appear, try again when you have access to a network where the full activation page can load. UB cannot advise students to bypass local laws, regulations or network restrictions.

  • Bring your UB Card or current government-issued photo ID with date of birth to the UBIT Help Center
  • Call the UBIT Help Center at 716-645-3542 and request a Remote Identity Assurance
